Change Models
There have been multiple models of behaviour and behavioural change proposed over the years. These have taken different viewpoints of behaviour. For example from the individual viewpoint of intentionally changing behaviour, but also from a governmental and policy-based viewpoint for changing behaviour over large population groups e.g. in health behaviours. These are therefore not necessarily reconcilable.
Consolidated models
-
- SCOAP is a comprehensive description of all human behaviour and can be used to develop more detailed and effective interventions and predict blocks and chances of success.
- Another consolidated model is that of Susan Michie et al. who in 2011 reviewed multiple behavioural change models to give a consolidated model commonly known as the Behavioural Change Wheel but also incorporating what is known as COM-B.
Other Models
These give you a brief overview of some of the most commonly used and referenced change models. We have, however, consolidated these in the Behavioural Change website to give a consolidated approach that includes all the elements in the above models. However, some people may find the models useful for thinking about change.
